Artist Statement

Gestural Abstraction is the form through which I explore a contemporary sublime, one that is illuminated by the subjective gaze of the viewer through the experience of seeing.

The seen and the unseen are intrinsic to this work. I approach a series of works like a scientist conducting experiments into the nature of materials, exploring each element of a painting, the support, the ground, the pigments.

Time is an important element; delving into the history of painting through the medium of colour, my brush becomes a microscope.
